Press Release: UJA-FEDERATION OF NEW YORK’S WHITE PLAINS WOMEN’S PHILANTHROPY COMMEMORATES 9/11 BY VISITING THE HOMEBOUND ELDERLY

SCARSDALE, NY (September 12, 2011) — UJA-Federation of New York’s White Plains Women’s Philanthropy commemorated 9/11 by joining together with DOROT Westchester — a UJA-Federation affiliate that offers socialization as well as educational and recreational programs for the elderly — to package and deliver food packages to the homebound elderly in the area. The packages were for the Rosh HaShanah holiday, which celebrates the beginning of the Jewish New Year. The gathering met as part of a Day of Chesed, Service and Remembrance, hosted by the JCC of Mid-Westchester in Scarsdale in cooperation with UJA-Federation. 

“To be able to commemorate 9/11 by doing good together, here as individuals and as a UJA-Federation community, just feels right,” said Diane Katz, who chairs the White Plains Women’s Philanthropy with Rena Rosen, Rebecca Wolf, and Ann Zisser, all of White Plains.

Hundreds of volunteers came to the JCC of Mid-Westchester in Scarsdale for the event, which took place on Sunday, September 11, 2011, to remember the tragedy of the terrorist attacks on the United States through volunteer work and helping those in need.
