Barefoot Running Phenomenon Hits White Plains

Ever hear of barefoot running? Would you try it?

Would you run barefoot through the streets of White Plains?

I did once, but that was only because my shoe broke—however, this woman pictured by White Plains Patch sprinting along Main Street, across from Starbucks, would.

According to the February 2010 issue of Runner’s World, the act of running barefoot became popular in 2009 after Christopher McDougall’s book “Born to Run.”

Barefoot running enthusiasts argue that it is more natural for your foot, makes them stronger, is more “exhilarating,” and just plain fun. Some podiatrists warn that the proactive could be harmful as the world is no longer filled with grassy fields, but with pavement that can be littered with glass and other items harmful to your feel. Some are opting for an in between with minimalist or natural shoes, for that almost barefoot feel
