Last Day For Green dasHAUS Green Pavilion Tour

The German energy house will be on display from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday at 125 Court St.

Since Tuesday, a little white pavilion sitting in a city parking lot has connected energy industry professionals from Germany to Westchester, while also teaching those who stop by about the latest renewable home energy solutions.

The dasHAUS traveling educational exhibit, sponsored by the German American Chamber of Commerce, is on a North American tour and just got back from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge before coming to White Plains.

"We are thrilled to partner with the German American Chamber of Commerce to bring dasHAUS to the City of White Plains,” said White Plains Mayor Thomas Roach.  “DasHAUS is a wonderful model of energy efficiency for both residential and commercial properties. The renewable energy technologies showcased are a terrific example of sustainable solutions that will be a learning tool for families who own homes, students and professionals alike."

Saturday between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. at 125 Court Street is the last chance to see the pavilion in White Plains. A dasHAUS is a structure built to ultra-low energy building standards. You can learn about the following sustainable technologies at the exhibit:

  • Thin film photovoltaic roof, facade and louvered panel systems
  • Heat-recovery climate control and ventilation systems, Passive House Standard triple-pane windows
  • Solar-powered LED lighting systems and high-efficiency appliances
  • Vacuum insulated panel systems
  • VRLA battery systems
  • Advanced wall construction materials and methods

“The German American Chambers of Commerce realize that reducing energy use and developing more sustainable energy systems are global issues, which will only be solved through international cooperation,” said Dr. Benno Bunse, President and CEO of the German American Chamber of Commerce. “We are pleased to present energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies in dasHAUS that are ready to meet these goals today.”

You can also take a bus from the pavilion to White Plains’ first Leader in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified home. Eco-realtor Gerry Angel’s ranch-style home at 64 Holbrooke Rd. is expected to get a LEED for Homes Gold rating.

A tour of her home will be given from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., where eco-friendly vendors can teach you how to save energy in your home. Click for more on that story.
