White Plains Man Arrested for Trafficking Child Pornography

The NYPD and FBI arrested Alexsandr Mkrtchyan, of 9 Oakwood Ave. in White Plains, Friday for allegedly possessing and distributing child pornography.

According to the complaint from the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Southern District of New York, law enforcement officials allegedly downloaded more than 2,700 files of child pornography from the 28-year-old's peer-to-peer networking program on the Internet between May 25 to June 7.

Prior to his arrest—police seized one desktop computer, one laptop; external drives, as well as CD’s and DVD’s from his White Plains home.

 Mkrtchyan has been charged with one count of possessing child pornography—which, if convicted, could mean up to ten years in prison and a $250,000 fine—and one count of receiving and distributing child pornography—a mandatory minimum sentence of 5 years or maximum 20-year sentence, and a maximum fine of $250,000.

He is currently out on bail and must avoid unsupervised contact with children, including at his workplace.

The complaint states that Mkrtchyan’s works at a hospital in the New York metropolitan area, and that his Facebook page states that he works in radiology. A Facebook page for Alex Mkrtchyan states he works in radiology at Stamford Hospital. A spokesperson for Stamford Hospital said she didn’t believe there was an Alexsandr Mkrtchyan who worked in radiology at the hospital.

Mkrtchyan allegedly told police that he has been viewing and sharing child pornography since he was 13-years-old.
