Heineken Safe Ride Available in White Plains Tonight; Deadline for Basic STAR is Today

  • The 4th Annual “Ring in the New Year at Noon” at New Roc City takes place today from 10:30 a.m. to 12;30 p.m.  Families will enjoy Times Square style atmosphere, complete with a daytime balloon release at noon. Not only will children be able to safely experience their own version of the infamous countdown, but also participate in family-friendly games, arts & crafts, snacks, face painting and more.   • Today is the deadline to register for the Basic STAR property tax exemption. Homeowners  can register here.
  • The White Plains Public Library is scheduled to close at 1 p.m. today.
  • The City of White Plains, in cooperation with the White Plains Business Improvement District (WP BID), will  once again ring in the New Year downtown at the City of White Plains New Year’s Eve Family Spectacular. This free outdoor event will be held on Main Street between Court Street and Renaissance Square on Tuesday, Dec. 31 and will feature: Celebration Entertainment DJ music from 10 p.m.– 11 p.m., the entertainment continues with a musical performance by “Soul Synergy Orchestra” beginning at 11 p.m. The excitement peaks with a fabulous crowd countdown, illuminated ball drop, and a midnight fireworks display by the Zambelli Company.
  • Heineken USA and City of White Plains is hosting the ‘New Year. Safe Ride.’ program for the 10th year in a row. Between 11 p.m. tonight and on Dec. 31 and 3 a.m. on Jan. 1, celebrants 21 and older will be able to catch a complimentary cab ride home to anywhere in White Plains and throughout Westchester County. The car service station will be located in the heart of downtown, on the corner of East Post Road and Mamaroneck Avenue.
