White Plains ZBA Meets; Poetry Slam at the White Plains Library; and Junior League Hosts Holiday Boutique


  • The White Plains Zoning Board of Appeals scheduled is scheduled to meet tonight at 7 p.m. inside city hall, located at 255 Main St. Check here for an agenda. 
  • The White Plains Library is hosting it’s Safe Driving Website program today at 4:30 p.m. Teens are invited to learn web design and research skills to create a Website focused on safe driving. Registration is required and can be done by going here. The White Plains Library is located at 100 Martine Ave. Snacks and refreshments will be served.
  • The Junior League of Central Westchester (JLCW) invites local residents to start their holiday shopping early at its 27th annual Holiday Boutique. There will be a series of vendors and many local businesses offering a variety of goods. The event promises many exciting features, including merchandise from more than 40 vendors, plated samples from some of Westchester’s premiere restaurants, and wine and spirits tastings. The entrance fee is a suggested donaion of  Proceeds will benefit the JLCW’s programs that support the local community. The event takes place at the Lake Isle Country Club today, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The suggested donation fee of $36 includes both days.   • The White Plains Library continues its "1st Wednesday" series today with an open mic and slam competition with guest poet Imani Cezanne. Cezanne is a San Diego native and a passionate poet, workshop facilitator, community organizer and slam coach. She has been a member of four National Poetry Slam teams in the last four years. To take part in the open mic or slam, register at 6:30 pm. Slammers should bring one original poem of up to 3 minutes. Registration closes promptly at 7, and the program starts shortly thereafter. Co-hosted by local poet and slammaster Eric ZORK Alan. Refreshments are served and all are welcome! Questions?   • The Jacob Purdy House, located at 60 Park Ave. in White Plains is hosting author and historian Thomas Fleming for a talk entitled "A Disease of the Mind: A New Understanding of Why We Fought the Civil War."
