Rain Showers and Thunderstorms Forecast; a Blood Drive; and Road Closures on the BRP

  • Today’s forecast calls for temperatures reaching a high in the mid-70s, rain showers, thunderstorms, gusty winds and possible flash floods, according to the National Weather Service. A flash flood warning is in effect until 6 p.m. Showers and thunderstorms are expected  before 2 p.m., with more then showers and possibly a thunderstorm likely between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. More scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected after 5 p.m.

  • There will be road closures on the Bronx River Parkway next week from White Plains to Yonkers. Closures are scheduled to take place on the Bronx River Parkway this week at midday and at night so that the construction crews can relocate temporary concrete median barriers and adjust travel lane widths while they work on the west abutment footing and retaining wall. The night time closures will occur from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Aug. 12 and 13 in both northbound and southbound directions from the Sprain Brook Parkway in Yonkers to the Westchester County Center (Exit 22) in White Plains. The midday closures will affect northbound traffic on Aug. 13 and 14 between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Check here for more information on the closures.

    • The Lepe family is hosting blood drive today at 10 a.m. inside the gym of the Mamaroneck Avenue School, located at 7 Nosband Ave. The drive is being held in honor of their son, Adrian, who was able to recover from a brain tumor last year thanks to the help of anonymous blood donors.  Contact Aimee Lepe aimeelepe@gmail.com or 914-216-5738 to schedule an appointment.

  • Learn how to make a video game with scratch at the White Plains library. Children in grades three and higher are invited to attend the the White Plains Library’s workshop to learn how to use the program Scratch to make their own video games during two sessions at  3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. today. The program has limited spaces and tickets will be distributed 30 minutes before it starts. On Aug. 20, all the videos made during the Scratch workshops during the summer.

    • The New Westchester Symphony Orchestra is inviting local musicians to a complimentary rehearsal at 7:30 p.m. tonight, inside the Music Conservatory of Westchester, located at 216 Central Ave. in  White Plains.
