Genetics Counselor Nicole Boxer is the most recent addition to the Cancer Program at White Plains Hospital. In this important role, Ms. Boxer will provide genetic testing and counseling for hereditary breast and ovarian cancers, hereditary colon cancer and other rare hereditary cancer syndromes.
Genetic counseling comprises advising patients on the nature and consequences of various inherited disorders, as well as the probabilities of developing and transmitting the disorders to offspring.
Guidance on methods of early detection, disease management and coping strategies are also provided.
Genetic testing is the most accurate way to estimate the probability of specific cancer risks and helps patients and their physicians make informed decisions about their medical care.
Ms. Boxer is skilled genetics counselor who most recently worked at Stamford Hospital in the Department of Maternal & Fetal Medicine, where she provided prenatal genetic counseling for patients referred for a wide variety of indications.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Society from Cornell University and obtained her Master’s degree from the Joan H. Marks Graduate Program in Human Genetics at Sarah Lawrence College. Ms. Boxer is also a member of the National Society of Genetic Counselors.
