City Students Succeed in Chess Tournament

White Plains Public School students took honors in the Ridgeway Elementary School Winter Classic Chess Tournament held on December 15th.

Mamaroneck Avenue School students achieved first place in the unrated primary section. Team members were Daniel Hagen, Joshua Ilberg, Cassidy Khachetoorian, Mason Kincheloe, Milo Kris, Jonathan Langley and Anthony Persampieri.

More than 100 students from New York and Connecticut competed.

Max Galkin, of Ridgeway School, won a trophy in the Booster section.

Each elementary school in White Plains has a Chess Club and the district estimates that there are about 350 chess players in the schools.
