"Heels and Wheels" 5-K Race Returns to Annual Event at Burke

A morning 5K race will once again be part of the annual Wheelchair Games at Burke Rehabilitation Hospital.

This event allows athletes who do not use wheelchairs and those who do to compete together.

“We are extremely happy to reinstate the Heels & Wheels portion of the Wheelchair Games as it was an integral part of the event for many years,” Heather Massimo, director of Burke’s Community Wellness program, said in a press release. “It will also be the only 5K race in White Plains this year so we encourage community members to participate.”

Registration for the 5K begins at 6:30 a.m. — there is a $25 registration fee but financial assistance may be available. An awards ceremony will be held at the conclusion of the race around 8:30 a.m.

Spectators are welcome for the 5K and the day's events, games and entertainment, as well as the track, field and table tennis events of the annual Wheelchair Games.
