White Plains Hospital Achieves Accreditation with Commendation from Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons
White Plains (January 22, 2013) – The Cancer Program at White Plains Hospital has earned another three-year Accreditation with Commendation from The Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons.
The Commission on Cancer (CoC), a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to improving survival and quality of life for cancer patients through standard-setting, prevention, research, education and the monitoring of comprehensive quality care, is the only multidisciplinary accreditation program for cancer programs in the United States. Its membership includes fellows of the American College of Surgeons and representatives of 47 national organizations that reflect the full spectrum of cancer care.
The Commission on Cancer promotes accountable quality care through comprehensive standards that guide treatment and ensure patient-centered cancer care; unique reporting tools to benchmark performance and improve outcomes; and educational interventions and targeted training opportunities.
Receiving care at a CoC-accredited cancer program ensures that a patient will have access to the full quality range of comprehensive cancer care close to home.

It is this outstanding level of commitment from our team that has allowed us to achieve and maintain this honor” said Mark Gordon, M.D., F.A.C.S., Chairman of the Hospital’s Cancer Committee and Surgical Director of the Cancer Program. “The accreditation again validates what our patients have told us for years that our cancer program is among the very best.” The Cancer Program first received the CoC accreditation when it opened in 1993 and has maintained continuous approval since that time; attaining commendation status in 2006, 2009 and again in 2012.
