Leading Westchester Attorney Debuts Financial Literacy Series Supported by NYSE Grant

Debt resolution expert Leslie Tayne addresses Mercy College students

Westchester-based debt resolution expert, Leslie H. Tayne, Esq., managing director at The Law Offices of Leslie H. Tayne, P.C., recently addressed an auditorium full of Mercy College students, faculty, and alumni as part of her “Tayne Your Debt” series. The two-day presentation took place at both the Dobbs Ferry and Bronx school campuses and was funded by a New York Stock Exchange grant to promote financial literacy among students.

Today’s college student will likely graduate with between $12,000 and $25,000 in student loan debt; however, some students can end up with many times that amount. In March 2012, student loan debt surpassed $1 trillion – more than $200 million over the national average of credit card and auto loan debt. The college edition of Tayne’s series, which is what was presented at Mercy College, educates college students on the importance of making responsible financial decisions including how to manage student loans.

Tayne’s expertise extends well beyond student loans to include all forms of debt resolution, as well as bankruptcy avoidance and money management skills for a fiscally healthy lifestyle. Her “Tayne Your Debt” speaking tour tackles common financial problems head-on in an engaging and casual conversation. Focused on three age groups – high school teens, college students, and senior citizens – each edition of “Tayne Your Debt” is unique and tailored to address the audience’s specific needs.

“It’s often difficult to admit to having debt and as a result, even people with the best intentions can sink deeper into it,” said Tayne. “My series encourages participants not only to face their debts and resolve them in a manner suited to their lifestyle, but also explores how to avoid debt from a realistic viewpoint.”
