THE GYM of Armonk Raises Funds for “Chappaqua’s A Cure In Our Lifetime” in Support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month

This past October, THE GYM of Armonk held three fundraising group fitness classes to raise funds to support Chappaqua’s “A Cure In Our Lifetime”, an organization with a mission to fund innovative breast cancer research and to promote breast health through education and outreach. The classes raised a total of $1,380 and THE GYM is going to match that amount for a total donation of $2,760.

The classes took place during the week of October 14th and were open to gym members and non-members alike on a first come, first serve basis. The suggested donation amount was $25 each class, and DJ Catch 1 Entertainment was on hand for each to keep the energy up and motivate attendees. On the morning of Sunday October 14th, Patty P. led Cardio Strength Mix, Mary T. led Spin on the evening of Tuesday October 16th, and the fundraising classes came to an end with Lailina N.’s Zumba dance party on the morning of Friday October 19th. All three of the classes were well attended and a rousing success according to participants and staff at THE GYM!

“We are so pleased to have been a part of this noble effort!” said Jamie Nicastri, General Manager at THE GYM of Armonk. “Philanthropy and giving back to the community are at the core of THE GYM’s value proposition, so we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to participate in an ongoing effort as important as finding a cure for breast cancer.” Lisa Gagliard, Group Fitness Director at THE GYM coordinated the class schedule with the group fitness instructors and commented, “Everyone was so supportive of this effort! Staff members, trainers, members and guests alike were excited to participate and brought their enthusiasm with them to each of the classes.”

Co-Chairs of “A Cure In Our Lifetime”, Laura Friedman and Karen Taub, are appreciative of THE GYM’s undertaking in support of their organization, especially in light of the large turnout and generous donations by contributors. “Thank you, thank you, thank you!” Friedman and Taub said. “We are proud to have THE GYM of Armonk as a partner in our efforts, and we look forward to working with them on many more successful events in the future.” Beneficiaries of the 2012 Fundraiser held at Trump National Golf Club in June include Dedicated Researcher from The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York University Langone Medical Center, Mount Sinai Medical Center – Dubin Breast Center, and The Navigator Program at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Women At Risk.

About Chappaqua’s “A Cure In Our Lifetime”

The Chappaqua “A Cure In Our Lifetime” just recently celebrated its 15 year anniversary. The committee was originally motivated by the loss of a close friend who passed away when she was only 38-years-old, leaving behind two very young children and husband. We are extremely proud and appreciative of our community’s efforts and support. Since 1998, we have raised over $2,000,000 in the fight against Breast Cancer. Our organization’s mission is to fund innovative breast cancer research and to promote breast health through education and outreach.
