Brian LaPlaca Named Youth of the Year in White Plains

Brian is a senior at White Plains High School. He has a 4.566 GPA and ranked 22 out of 500 students. Brian is an intelligent, honest and conscientious young man. He is popular and well-liked by his teachers and peers for being warm, friendly and courteous. He is always empathetic and considerate about the needs of others. To this end, he has devoted much of his time to community causes.

Brian is also a student of academic excellence. He has a demanding schedule, taking mostly Honors level, AP and college preparatory courses. He is an A student and will graduate next June with 34 credits, ranked inside the top 5 percent of his very competitive senior class and with an Advanced New York State Regents Diploma with honors. He is a member of the National Honor Society, an AP Scholar and is being given a National Hispanic Recognition Award.

Brian is involved in various school and out of school activities. He has had a life-long commitment to the Boy Scouts of America. He will soon be recognized as an Eagle Scout due to his acquisition of over 23 Merit Badges and community service projects. For his project he directed and organized the collection of 4,004 pairs of new and gently used shoes for the homeless and needy.

He is an active participant in the Mayor’s Youth Council and has volunteered at many events sponsored by the City of White Plains. At school Brian manages to devote time to the Math Club, the Latin Club, the school newspaper and at football games, where he performs as a trumpeter in the marching band. He somehow also manages to help out and volunteer in the soup kitchen and participate in his church youth group. His list of other community involvement is enormous.
