E-Waste: The Dirty Little Secret About Technology

Progressive Computing CEO to Address Issue of Technology Recycling in Seminar at The Microsoft Store

Robert Cioffi, CEO of Progressive Computing (PCI), a computer consulting and network installation, design and maintenance firm serving clients from offices in Westchester County and Manhattan, will present the next in a series of free educational technology seminars for business owners on January 15th, 2014 from 4:30 to 6:30 PM at The Microsoft Store at 125 Westchester Avenue in White Plains, NY.

Discussing “E-Waste: The Dirty Little Secret about Technology,” Cioffi will describe how and why to properly dispose of old computers, fax machines and office phones and take back the office storage closet.  The interactive event will include a question and answer period, and light refreshments will be served.

At the most recent seminar in the series, attended by small and mid-sized business owners, Cioffi spoke to individuals, business owners and professionals about the opportunities and challenges of mobile computing.  “Mobile computing is not just about the power of the device in your pocket or its ability to connect,” said Cioffi “it’s about being able to work in conjunction with Cloud-based services, where data is stored and where there are different services available on-line.”

Whether it’s on a smart phone, a laptop, a tablet or another device, Cioffi noted that “…mobile computing is a constant – it’s on all the time and we depend on it all the time now.”

While working from home, on the road and on multiple devices, Cioffi advised the audience on how to stay connected, be more efficient and keep their data secure while growing their businesses with help from mobile technology.  He discussed the importance of and the numerous methods necessary to effectively protect proprietary data in a mobile computing environment.

Upcoming seminar dates and topics:

IT meets HR: Wednesday: February 26th
From employee handbooks to rules governing personal devices and social media posts, a thought-provoking discussion of rules and safeguards to consider.

Cioffi, a Microsoft Small Business Specialist, is a seasoned speaker and writer on a variety of technology topics for small and mid-sized business, and an official advisor to Microsoft.  In addition, he recently gained the Apple Mobility Competency. He will be joined by additional subject matter experts.
