Gallagher to Be Honored as Eagle Scout

Hastings-on-Hudson, NY – November 15, 2013 – On Saturday, November 30, 2013, at the James Harmon Community Center, Boy Scout Troop 2 of Hastings-on-Hudson will honor the advancement of Padric Sean Gallagher to the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank of the Boy Scouts of America.

Gallagher began his journey in Boy Scouts as a Tiger Cub in Pack 1 Hastings in June 2003. He graduated into the Boy Scouts in January 2007, joining Troop 24 Dobbs Ferry and later becoming one of the original scouts of the reactivated Troop 2 when it was re-chartered in 2008.

Of the millions of boys that enter the Boy Scouts, only 3-4 percent continue on to earn the rank of Eagle.

Troop 2 is sponsored by the First Reformed Church of Hastings, which has chartered the troop dating back to its inception in 1915. Gallagher is the first Troop 2 Hastings scout to earn the rank of Eagle in more than 13 years and the first since the troop was re-chartered. The oldest son of Sean and Cecilia Gallagher, Gallagher is a senior at Hastings High School and is attending BOCES culinary classes in preparation for a career in the restaurant business, as well as AP History toward a possible collegiate course of study.

“We are extremely proud of Padric,” his parents remarked, “and we know his becoming an Eagle Scout will serve him well in attaining his future career goals.”

As part of the requirements for becoming an Eagle Scout, Gallagher led and completed an Eagle Scout project that involved repairing a public staircase in the Village of Hastings-on-Hudson that leads from Hamilton Street to Prescott Street. The project included patching the original concrete structure, clearing debris around the staircase and landscaping the area, providing for a safe passageway for pedestrians and commuters alike.
