HEALTHY OPTIONS AVAILABLE FOR SUMMER AT WHITE PLAINS DOWNTOWN FARMER'S MARKET

Summertime, with its soaring temperatures and outdoor activities, very often has us making lighter, healthier choices when it comes to meal planning and snack alternatives. Sure, we all enjoy those summer backyard barbeques with their burgers, hotdogs and sides of potato salad and coleslaw.  But sometimes, our bodies crave a fresh, crisp salad, full of juicy, locally-grown tomatoes, lettuces, cool cucumbers and whatever other seasonal ingredients turn up at our local farmer’s market each week.  And sometimes, we want someone else to do the food prep for us so that we can enjoy more active, outdoor time with family and friends.

For this reason, we’re happy to introduce three new vendors who will be at the White Plains Downtown Farmer’s Market on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, each offering something different in the way of fresh, healthful, organic, gluten-free and/or vegan options.

Chef E, Elyse Jacobson, is head chef and co-owner of SKINNY BUDDHA, purveyor of  all organic salads, soups and wraps, many of which are gluten free, dairy-free and/or vegan.  Stop by to see what’s on the menu this week.  While you’re at it, pick up a supply of their energy-packed Buddha Bars for a quick pick-me-up.

Break Bread Not Hearts is the name of Giovanni Green’s ‘cooking community.’  While a large part of their business is a food preparation and delivery service, initially, he will be bringing his Vegan and Gluten Free dessert items to the market:  Chocolate Dank Cookies; Ginger Zing! Cookies and Banana Bread Brownies.

If it’s a cool, healthful thirst-quencher you’re after, be sure to look for the EDENESQUE booth, where Chef Leslie Woodward will offer up a wide selection of organic, locally sourced, cold-pressed juices made from seasonal fruits, vegetables and herbs. She also carries a line of almond milks, which are available in such exotic flavors as Chia Seed/Date and Vanilla/Cardamom/Turmeric.
