Community Corner

Heartsong's First Annual Special Needs Resource Fair - Sunday, October 20th, 2013

Heartsong, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization in White Plains that provides creative arts therapies for people with special needs.  Heartsong has had the privilege of serving more than 1,200 children, teens and adults by utilizing the skills of talented art and music therapists and the generous support of volunteers.  Practicing its mission of improving the quality of life for individuals with special needs, Heartsong is extending efforts to support parents, caregivers, and entire families.

On Sunday October 20th, Heartsong will open its doors and welcome individuals with special needs and their families to connect directly with local organizations and service providers.  Participating vendors will be on-site representing the vast spectrum of services that people with special needs access across the lifespan.

Navigating services and entitlements can be overwhelming, causing an undue burden to people and families alike.  Over time, the needs of individuals and families can change but do not disappear.  This becomes problematic as funding for social programs diminish nationwide and access to services becomes increasingly harder to obtain, especially as people age.    With this event, Heartsong hopes to alleviate some of the frustration that often accompanies the ongoing search for resources while simultaneously building a collaborative network of community organizations.
