[PHOTOS] White Plains Community Comes Out for National Night Out

Hundreds of people came out for the fifth annual White Plains "National Night Out" event Tuesday in front of the public safety building at 77 S. Lexington Ave.

White Plains joined thousands of communities in celebrating the event, which is neighborhood block party designed to generate support for anti-crime programs,  strengthen  police and community partnerships, and send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

In White Plains, the event is organized by the city's Department of Public Safety with help from sponsors such as ShopRite, Target and Walmart.

The event featured music, a bouncy castle, raffles, giveaways and other activities. There was also a graduation ceremony for the members of this year's  White Plains Safety Public Citizen’s Academy.
