Pick up Some TimBits at the Train Station

Canadian java&donut chain Tim Horton's is moving into White Plains

The newsstand at the White Plains Metro North train station will soon be an outpost of Tim Horton's, the coffee shop born in Canada that's been making inroads down the New York State Thruway.

Metro-North Railroad announced that "The franchise will be operated by Gateway Foods, which also will begin operations of the newsstand at the station, replacing longtime newsstand operator Gary Waxman, who decided to retire."

The highest bidder, Gateway will pay $79,200 a year for the coffee concession and $63,360 for the newsstand with 35 annual rent increases during the 10-year term. The board of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority approved the lease June 12, the Metro North press release said.

According to Metro North, White Plains is the busiest station in New York State outside Grand Central Terminal—used by nearly 20,000 people a day.

The coffee stand/newsstand will be renovated in a way that will create more storage space for the operation and also improve the front entrance of the station, the press release said.
