With winter just around the corner, The OLS (Our Lady of Sorrows) Gladhatters are busy making hats for children and adults in need.

Since 2011 the group has been meeting weekly to knit and crochet hats.  Nearly 2,500 have been distributed to the Capuchin Outreach Ministries (NYC), Cancer Center at Hudson Valley and Calvary Hospitals, FranciscanOutreach Center (Fairview, NJ), Hurricane Sandy victims (Staten Island) and Neonatal Nursery at Hudson Valley Hospital.

The most recent batch of 700 hats will be donated to The Jan Peek House in Peekskill, which provides housing for homeless men and women as well as a food pantry for families and individuals.

"We come together to use our talents to help those in need, as well as to enjoy each other’s company,” says Sister Laura Morgan, FMCS, Pastoral Associate, who founded the group. “We’ve become family to one another and are glad to use our gifts and time helping our brothers and sisters who will be a little warmer because we care about them.”

The OLS Gladhatters meets on Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Community Room at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in White Plains.  The group is open to knitters and crocheters of all levels. Monetary and material donations are welcome. For more information, contact Sister Laura at 914-949-9819 or olsbulletin@mail.com.
