White Plains Storm Hub: White Plain Schools Closed Friday, Tappan Zee Now Open to Passenger Cars, MTA Trains On Reduced Schedule

Update, 5:30 a.m. Friday: More snow is expected today, with a northwest wind of 16 to 23 miles per hour expected, according to the National Weather Service. Wind gusts are expected to reach as high 33 miles per hour, creating hazardous travel conditions this morning.

The White Plains Schools District announced that all schools are closed Friday and the MTA announced that trains are running on Saturday's schedule today.

Bee-Line buses and Paratransit vehicles will start service when weather conditions permit safe operations. The Westchester County Airport is open, but passengers should check with their carrier for specific flight information.

Gov. Cuomo announced this morning that passenger cars were being  allowed on I-87, between exit 24 in Albany and the New York City border, at 5 a.m. The commercial vehicle ban remains in effect until 8 a.m.

On Interstate 84,  between the Pennsylvania and Connecticut borders, the ban on commercial and passenger vehicles has been extended extended until 8 a.m.

On the Long Island Expressway in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, the ban on commercial and passenger vehicles has been extended until a.m.

      All roads will be open to all traffic at 8 a.m.

      “Safety remains our top priority,” Cuomo said in a statement. “I urge all New Yorkers to take every precaution as we wait out the remainder of this winter storm. Check on your neighbors and loved ones, and only travel if absolutely necessary.”

      The Tappan Zee Bridge will open at 5 a.m. to passenger vehicles with a reduced speed limit of 35 mph. The ban on commercial vehicles remains in place until 8 a.m.

      The National Weather Service is forecasting snow through the day, with blizzard like conditions during rush hour. A winter weather warning  goes into effect at 6 p.m. today and is scheduled to end 1 p.m.  Friday.
