WJC to Stand With Israel in 'Night of Solidarity'

Organizers say more than 500 people are expected to gather at Temple Israel Center in White Plains Tuesday evening.

A large crowd of Israel supporters is expected to gather at the Temple Israel Center in White Plains Tuesday evening to publicly back the country as its conflict with Gaza continues.

The Westchester Jewish Council is hosting the event, Westchester County Executive Robert Astorino, Israel Council General Ido Aharoni and David Harris, executive director of the American Jewish Council, are expected to attend.

Organizers say several people are expected to speak and the group will sing songs in support of Israel. More than 500 people are expected to attend.

Israel began an air assault on Gaza Wednesday, killing a Hamas military leader. The two sides have exchanged rocket fire for nearly a week since, with more than 110 Palestinians and three Israelis being killed, according to BBC News.

Leaders from both countries are in the process of negotiating a cease-fire, according to several reports.

Each of the Westchester Jewish Council's 145 member organizations have been invited to display banners at Tuesday's rally in support of Israel. Information on how to support Israel, including writing and phone campaigns, will be available Tuesday night, organizers say.

The rally will take place from 7:30 to 9 p.m. The Temple Israel Center is located at 280 Old Mamaroneck Rd., White Plains.
