White Plains Artist to Host Reception in Harrison

The work of Lorie Gurian will be on display in the Harrison Downtown Library community room until Sept. 7.

An artist reception Monday evening will help welcome the work of decorated White Plains artist Lorie Gurian to the Harrison Library.

A reception for Gurian's gallery, entitled "Natural Fractions" will be held at the library from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Gurian is a retired math teacher and is now a full time artist living in White Plains. She works in oil, acrylic, and watercolor and recently started taking classes in printmaking at the Westchester Community College Center for the Arts in White Plains. Gurian is a member of the New Rochelle Art Association and the Mamaroneck Artists Guild.  Her work has won awards in many shows in Westchester County, Connecticut and New York City.

“I have always been interested in capturing my love of nature through painting," Gurian said. "I enjoy both traditional and abstract representations of nature. One of my delights in painting is to get up close and personal with often ignored aspects of the natural world. I also enjoy painting exotic plants.  My watercolors are very detailed, but I balance that work with broad landscapes and abstract paintings in all three mediums. “

Gurian's work will remain on display in the library's community room until Sept. 7.
