Well, people in the White Plains area are in luck. A new Smashburger has opened up today at 49 Tarrytown Road in White Plains, in the same plaza as White Plains Bowl, and it might be option for anybody looking to enjoy a speedy casual dining experience.

The franchise, which is being opened by Rich Greenstein, Howard Novick and Ronnie Portnoy, is the third one to open in Westchester County. The first franchise opened in Mamaroneck in 2012 and was followed months later by a franchise in Pelham Manor.

Greenstein, Novick and Ronnie Portnoy were honored this year with Smashburger’s Franchisee of the Year Award.

“We are pleased to announce the opening of our new White Plains location,” said Greenstein, partner, said in statement. “In 2011, we were searching for a restaurant concept that we believed had solid growth potential. Specifically, a concept that provided delicious burgers and sandwiches in a relaxed atmosphere. Smashburger delivers exactly that. As burgers are America’s favorite food, we believe that the Smashburger concept will continue to grow – and we look forward being a part of it across New York and Connecticut.”

So what separates Smashburger from any numbers of burger places in the area? The first thing is the restaurant's process for grilling hamburgers. The burgers are “smashed” on each side on a 400-degree flat grill with the purpose of searing in the juicy flavor. The burgers are then served on toasted artisan buns and topped with a selection of the freshest produce, real cheeses and highest-quality condiments.

Burger choices range from the bacon cheeseburger, which is topped off with crisp applewood bacon on a soft egg bun, to the truffle mushroom swiss, which is topped with off with a truffle mayonnaise and baby portabella mushrooms on an egg bun.

The menu in White Plains also includes the  “New Yorker,” a specialty burger unique to New York franchises that is topped with cheddar, garlic grilled onions, spinach, tomato and peppercorn; a spicy veggie black bean burger, which is cooked using the same ‘smash’ method used for the burgers; and a number of "Smash" chicken options.

Sides include the Smashfries, which are tossed with Rosemary, olive oil and garlic; sweet potato fries; regular french fries; and haystack onions. Anyone interested in a healthier option can try the veggie frites, which are a mixture of fresh asparagus spears, carrot sticks and green beans that have been lightly seasoned and flash-fried.

For dessert, there are different varieties of Haagen-Das infused shakes and malts available. A copy of the menu can be found here.
