HOLOCAUST & HUMAN RIGHTS EDUCATION CENTER’S MILLIE JASPER JOINS WJC BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Millie Jasper, executive director of the Holocaust and Human Rights Education Center, a not-for-profit organization, serving Westchester, Fairfield and Putnam counties has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Westchester Jewish Council.

The Westchester Jewish Council is the coordinating body for 140 Jewish organizations, serving as the leadership center and voice for Westchester’s 150,000 Jews.  The not-for-profit Council encourages participation in Jewish life and supports and develops initiatives and programs that meet existing and emerging Jewish communal needs.

Ms. Jasper is the immediate past president and a member of the executive board of Temple Israel of Northern Westchester in Croton-on-Hudson. She also serves as the Union for Reform Judaism (URJ) Community Vice-Chair.  Her accomplishments as a volunteer leader include organizing members of the local interfaith community for the "Save Darfur" rally in Washington, D.C.

The mission of HHREC is to enhance the teaching and learning of the lessons of the Holocaust and the right of all people to be treated with dignity and respect. The Center helps schools fulfill the New York State mandate that the Holocaust and other human rights abuses be included in their curriculum. Since 1994, the Holocaust & Human Rights Education Center has brought the lessons of the Holocaust, genocide and human rights crimes to more than 1,750 teachers, and through them, to thousands of middle and high school students.
