White Plains Hospital Announces Beginning of Phase II of $108 Million Major Transformation Project

One of the Largest Healthcare Construction Projects in the Region Includes New Operating Rooms and Outpatient Radiology Suite, More Private Rooms, New Entrance and Lobby and Extensive Upgrades

As one of the largest healthcare construction projects in the region, White Plains Hospital announced today the beginning of Phase II of its major transformation project. In September, the Hospital received approval from the Westchester County Local Development Corporation (LDC) for $108 million in tax-exempt financing for a transformational building project to create a more welcoming, modern and healing environment.

The first phase of the multi-phase project involved building a new outpatient radiology suite and a new operating room. The total project set a new standard for state-of-the-art health care facilities in the region with redesigned public and clinical areas, more private patient rooms and a wide range of infrastructure improvements. A total of 51,000 square feet will be added and 14,000 square feet will be renovated.

The scope of the work will be evident the moment patients and visitors arrive at the hospital which occupies a full block in the heart of the city.  A new porte-cochere will provide protection from the elements and serve as the entry point to a new lobby. Twenty five-foot high glass walls will provide an abundance of natural light. The new lobby will feature high-end finishes throughout and interior walls of natural stone. Spacious open seating areas and a new café will provide an attractive environment for patients, staff and visitors.

In order to meet the growing health care needs of the community, key elements of the hospital’s clinical areas and services will also undergo significant expansion and upgrades.

These include:

· New entrance, reception area and waiting room for Outpatient Radiology to better serve the increased demand for the hospital’s radiologic services, as well as provide patients and family added privacy and comfort. The newly completed Outpatient Radiology suite includes new state-of-the-art reading rooms for the radiology staff.

· Five new 600-square-foot integrated operating rooms will be added. The first of the new operating rooms has been completed and designed specifically for minimally invasive and robotic procedures featuring the most advanced da Vinci® surgical system. All of the new operating rooms will feature integrated lights and booms to support the most advanced robotic and laparoscopic surgical procedures, enhancing efficiency, safety and patient comfort.

·  The Central Sterile Supply suite that serves all of the operating rooms will also be modernized and expanded.

·  A new six-story patient care building will house two medical/surgical floors, family waiting rooms, and 24 new private patient rooms, which will nearly double the number of private patient rooms to 114.  The new rooms will feature individual temperature control systems, flat screen televisions and upgraded finishes. Private rooms not only improve patient satisfaction but they help with infection control and managing the daily inpatient census.

As part of the project, the hospital is making significant enhancements to its infrastructure to ensure greater operating efficiency and energy conservation. These improvements include increasing the amount of emergency electrical generation to support today’s advanced administrative and clinical technologies, as well as adding electrical capacity to service a new wing. Generators will be relocated to the roof which will increase the amount of onsite fuel storage to improve reliability during natural disasters such as Hurricanes Irene and Sandy.

In addition to the transformation plan for the main hospital building, the hospital previously announced that it will be renovating its Dickstein Cancer Treatment Center. The renovations and construction will double the size of the Cancer Center to approximately 70,000 square feet. The project will provide space for additional infusion therapy, physician offices and patient and family amenities.
