Debris Continues to Shutter White Plains Roads

Several downtown thoroughfares closed Wednesday afternoon.

Despite Sandy's powerful winds and rains being nearly 48 hours in the past, a series of White Plains roads remain closed in the storm's wake.

Some lanes on Hamilton Avenue and Main Street are seeing sporadic closings, White Plains officials told Patch.

Nearby, unsafe conditions at one of the city's posh hotels have yellow tape up, as well.

"Construction debris on the side of one of the Ritz Carlton buildings has come loose during the storm, and we are using precaution because of some falling debris," said David Chong, White Plain's commissioner of public safety.

"The management of the Ritz buildings have repair crews on the scene and are working to correct this situation," he added. "We will reopen all lanes as soon as possible."
