Happy Birthday, George Washington [PHOTOS]

Celebrating the birth of our first president.

People gathered outside the Jacob Purdy House in White Plains and endured the chilly wind as a group of Revolutionary War re-enactors marched in formation to the flagpole and raised the stars and stripes under the watchful eyes of General George Washington himself on the anniversary of his birth.

Portrayed by Michael Grillo of Brooklyn, the general inspected the group of soldiers, pronounced them fit for duty and ordered the flag to be raised outside the site of his headquarters for several months in 1778.

White Plains Historical Society president Robert Hoch spoke to the group of visitors about General Washington and the historic site they were standing on before inviting everyone to enjoy refreshments and conversation including a piece of birthday cake cut by the general himself.
