[UPDATE] White Plains Mayor Roach: ‘Time to Get Back to Work’

White Plains Mayor Thomas Roach and councilmen John Martin, Beth Smayda and John Kirkpatrick held substantial leads Tuesday night, according to unofficial results. Ben Boykin held a lead over Miriam Flisser for District 5 of the Board of Legislators.

The numbers on the calendar will change, but it appears the faces will stay the same on White Plains Common Council.

The Democratic candidates appeared to have the election under control late Friday, with all but five districts will returning their results, according to unofficial numbers from the Westchester County Board of elections.

“I feel honored and I feel pleased,” Roach said following a celebration part that took place at Vintage in White Plains. “I’ve worked hard and put everything I have into this I love this city and I pleased to see the response of our residents.”

Roach said residents can expect more of the same in 2014.

“Never stop working,” Roach said. “It’s time to get back to working for the people of White Plains.”

Incumbent John Martin, who appeared to have won his re-election bid along with fellow Democratic incumbents Beth Smayda and John Kirkpatrick, said he looked forward to serving a full-term.

“I think the people of White Plains spoke very loud and clear tonight,” Martin said. “They liked the administration that is running the city in a fiscally responsible, environmentally responsible manner and, at the same, is protect our neighborhoods and promotes smart growth.”

In the race for District 5 in the Board of Legislators, which covers White Plains and Scarsdale, Democrat Ben Boykin appeared to have defeated Miriam Flisser, according to unofficial tallies. Boykin had about 61 percent of the vote, with 48 out of 55 districts reporting, late Tuesday. Boykin currently sits on the White Plains Common Council. The Common Council will appoint someone to replace Boykin if he wins Tuesday’s Race.

Update, 11:21 p.m.: Thomas Roach has 77 percent of the vote to 23 percent for Cass Cibelli, with with 54 percent of districts reporting.

Democrats Beth Smayda, John Martin and John Kirkpatrick each have 21 percent of the vote, while Republicans Anne Encarnacao, Claudia Murphy and Carl Albanese have vote percentages in the low teens.

Update, 7:45 p.m.: Polls are about to close and results form this year's White Plains Common Council and mayor's, along with the tallies in the race for District 5 in the Westchester County Legislator, which covers White Plains and Scarsdale, should start coming in later tonight.

Incumbents John B. Kirkpatrick, John Martin and Beth Smayda, all Democrats, are running against Republican candidates Claudia Murphy and AnneMarie Encarnacao. Carl Albanese, who is also on the ballot as a Republican, did not actively campaign.

In the mayor's race, incumbent and Democratic candidate Thomas Roach will face Republican Cass Cibelli.
