Dave Van Ronk “Ronkarama” Folk Music Concert With Christine Lavin, David Massengill, Eve Silber and Chris Lowe

Friends and students of the late folk singer Dave Van Ronk, including Christine Lavin and David Massengill, will remember him and salute him through his music at a public coffeehouse performance on Saturday, May 3rd at 8pm at Woodlands Community Temple at 50 Worthington Road, White Plains, NY 10533.  Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the door or online at wct.org.

Van Ronk, known as “The Mayor of MacDougal Street”, was a key player in the 1960s folk revival who befriended, promoted and influenced folk performers such as Bob Dylan, Tom Paxton, Phil Ochs, Rambin’ Jack Elliot and Joni Mitchell.  Dylan said “I copied some of his recordings phrase for phase...I loved his style.  In Greenwich Village, Van Ronk was king of the street, he reigned supreme.”

The Ronkarama will include Van Ronk’s friends and students Christine Lavin, David Massengill, Eve Silber and Chris Lowe.   

Lavin was selected as one of the 100 most influential artists by Singer Songwriter Magazine and has won eight ASCAP songwriting awards.  Many of her songs alternate between emotional reflections on romance and outright comedy, including “Sensitive New Age Guys” and “Bald Headed Men.”

Guitar and Dulcimer player David Massengill’s best-known songs include “One The Road to Fairfax County”, recorded by The Roaches and Joan Baez.    

Silber performs a repertoire of jazz standards.  SingOut Magazine says “Eve’s voice, sultry and saucy, transports you to a sophisticated pleasure ground”.   Lowe is a singer songwriter who performs with a 1936 vintage Gibson guitar with a lyrical sense of time and place that Van Ronk called “the kind of stuff any novelist would envy.”
