Feb. 7 marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Dickens. To mark the occasion, Bet Am Shalom Synagogue will show “The First Fagin,” a newly released docudrama depicting the life of Ikey Solomon, the man reputed to be the inspiration for the character of Fagin in “Oliver Twist.”  A rare examination of the criminal subculture from which Dickens drew inspiration, the film blends reconstructed dramatic sequences with historical documentary.

"The First Fagin" was directed by Alan Rosenthal, who will be present to introduce it and lead a discussion after the showing.
