Steph is a rising star in the contemporary world music and jazz scene.  Her earthy voice and warm alto saxophone sound bring to life her original compositions, which combine classical and Chinese music with jazz harmonies.  In April 2011, she released her first jazz album, Prime Knot, which features Marcus Printup (Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra) on trumpet.  In April 2012, her first commission for ballerina Susan Jaffe premiered at Goucher College in Maryland. The music features Kenny Wollesen on percussion and was choreographed to by Susan.    In November 2011, Chou led a quintet in several performances of her original music in Taipei, Taiwan. In April 2009, Chou led her group in a performance at Carnegie Hall. She has performed throughout New York City at venues including B.B. King's, Miller Theater, Shea Stadium, Drom, The Knitting Factory, and in the atrium at Jazz at Lincoln Center, as well as in Beijing, Italy, New Orleans, and Chicago. In 2008 and 2009, Chou was awarded Columbia's Rapaport Prize for Music. She was a finalist for a Fulbright Scholarship in 2010-2011 and the Frank Huntington Beebe Fund for Musicians in 2009. She continues to live and perform around NYC.
