Community Corner

Stop Smoking Group for the LGBT Community

We will meet once a week for 8-10 weeks (depending upon individual need) in a supportive group environment. You will learn how to plan and prepare for quitting, define the reasons you smoke, recognize the behaviors that need to change, learn how to deal with cravings, and ways to cope with stress, and current information about nicotine replacement therapy for those who wish to use it. With the support of your facilitator and the group, you can become a nonsmoker. For anyone interested, hypnosis is also offered.

The first meeting will be 2 hours and the subsequent ones 1 1/2 hours. We will start each meeting by taking a carbon monoxide (CO) reading to measure the levels of toxic CO inhaled from tobacco smoke, and a relaxation exercise before we start group. Fees per person per week are a minimum of $20 per week up to a maximum of $50. The fee is dependent upon what you pay for cigarettes each week. For example if you smoke one pack per day and pay $7 a pack that is a fee of $49 per week.
