New Westchester Symphony Orchestra at Barnes & Noble, White Plains

On Thursday, July 17, New Westchester Symphony Orchestra brings you an evening of music and literature at the White Plains Barnes & Noble store at City Center. Music will include solo, chamber and orchestral performances, including well-loved opera arias with outstanding soloists. This is a FREE event!

NewWSO also has talented authors in our midst, and they will present short talks about their works and will sign their books. Read more about all of the presenting authors below.

A portion of all purchases made in-store and online that evening and through July 22 will benefit NewWSO. This includes Starbucks drinks and non-book items. About the Authors

The authors scheduled to present on July 17 at Barnes & Noble are also musicians, all of whom have come back to playing music after many years on their own, with NewWSO, and with other ensembles.

Ron Dionne, clarinet
Book Title: Sad Jingo
Sad Jingo is Ron Dionne's first novel. He played clarinet and saxophone in high school...and half a lifetime later has taken up the clarinet again, promising this time to stick with it.

Elizabeth Ehrlich, cello
Book Title: Miriam's Kitchen
Elizabeth Ehrlich is a founding member of NewWSO. Her works include Miriam's Kitchen: A Memoir (winner of the National Jewish Book Award) and a biography of Nellie Bly. She has also taught at Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. She was born in Detroit, MI and lives in Westchester County.

Ari L. Goldman, cello
Book Title: The Late Starters Orchestra
Ari L. Goldman, a former reporter for theNew York Times, is a professor of journalism at Columbia University. He is the author of four books, most recentlyThe Late Starters Orchestra, which chronicles his adventures of learning the cello as an adult. Along the way, he learns about fathers and sons, the enduring impact of a great teacher and the power of a musical community. Listen to Mr. Goldman's recent interview on NPR.

Michael Newton, flute
Book Title: Without Your Consent
Michael Newton maintains an ophthalmology practice in New York City and is Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the Mount Sinai Hospital School of Medicine. In 1998 he earned a Liberal Studies masters degree in medical ethics from the City University of New York. He rediscovered the flute upon turning fifty, takes lessons as often as possible, and has played in adult chamber ensembles at the Lucy Moses School and the 92nd St Y.
