Yamaha Artist Tony DeSare to Perform at Faust Harrison Pianos in White Plains

The event will be held at Faust Harrison Pianos (Yamaha’s authorized piano dealer located at 214 Central Avenue, White Plains) on Sunday, October 6, beginning at 7pm.


Named a “Rising Star” Male Vocalist in Downbeat magazine’s 2009 Critics Poll, DeSare has lived up to the distinction by winning critical and popular acclaim for his concert performances throughout the United States, as well as in Australia, Japan and Hong Kong.


The critics agree. “With his dark hair, bright brown eyes and toothpaste smile that rarely fades, DeSare is one of the most promising young male performers. He is a Sinatra acolyte in his early 30s who sings Prince as well as Johnny Mercer,” raved the New York Times. The Wall Street Journal adds its own flattering comparisons, stating, “He is one third Bobby Darin, one third Bobby Short and one third Bobby Kennedy.” Rounding out the accolades is USA Today, proclaiming “DeSare belongs to a group of neo‐traditional upstarts stretching from Harry Connick, Jr., to Michael Bublé and Jamie Cullum. DeSare covers old and newer pop and jazz standards without smothering or over‐thinking the material.”


His latest achievement includes putting together a brand new live show, “My Generation: The Contemporary American Songbook,” which pays tribute to the traditional genius of Gershwin, Berlin, Porter and Kern, while introducing the many great songwriters who created iconic music over the past half century. These new inductees include Ray Charles, Billy Joel, Bob Dylan, Carole King, and Michael MacDonald, as well as ‘adopted’ American songwriters like Paul McCartney, Elton John, and Barry Gibb. As always, DeSare has some exciting new material of his own, and a few wonderful surprises he shares with the audience.


Aside from a busy touring schedule throughout the 2013-14 season, DeSare’s other major project this year is the October 1st release of his CD titled, “PiANO,” which will be previewed at Faust Harrison.


“PiANO is the result of more than two years of experimentation and recording entirely created on a Yamaha Disklavier reproducing piano, using various features and technology exclusive to the instrument,” explains DeSare, a Yamaha artist. “Every sound you hear on this album, other than my voice originated from somewhere in, on or under the piano. For example, many of the guitar sounds are played with a guitar pick on the piano string, then processed with EQ, reverb and often run through the great guitar amp simulators featured in Steinberg Cubase music software. The big kettle drum sound from “You Give Love A Bad Name” was made by putting a microphone on the soundboard and another right under the keyset. Many songs use more than 60 tracks of individually recorded piano parts sonically sculpted to sound like anything from a bass drum to a banjo.”


DeSare performs with infectious joy, wry playfulness, and robust musicality. His sound is romantic, swinging and sensual, but what sets DeSare apart is his ability to write original material that sounds fresh and contemporary, yet pays homage to the Great American Songbook. As a result, DeSare can deftly glide from a Gershwin standard, to a Dylan or Paul McCartney classic, to one of his inventive original songs.
