Co-Chairs Announced for Food Bank's "An Evening in Good Taste" Event

 The Food Bank for Westchester, the county’s emergency food distribution network which provides 95% of food to those who are hungry or at risk of being hungry, recently announced that Christopher and Sean Murphy of Murphy Brothers Contracting will co-chair the organization’s 23rd annual “An Evening in Good Taste” event, which will be held Thursday, October 17 at 1133 Westchester Avenue in White Plains.

With the goal of ending childhood hunger in Westchester County, this signature event features food from 30 local restaurants, assistance from 100 volunteers and attracts 600-700 guests.

“We are thrilled that Chris and Sean Murphy are lending us their time and energy to co-chair ‘An Evening in Good Taste,’ which is one of our highest-attendance events each year,” said Ellen Lynch, Executive Director of the Food Bank for Westchester. “Chris and Sean are a dynamic team and are dedicated to raising awareness and dollars for this cause. We know that with them involved, the event will be even more successful than ever before.”

Lynch noted that one in five residents of the County is hungry or at-risk of being hungry; of those almost 200,000 people, one-third are children.

Christopher and Sean Murphy are co-owners and operators of Mamaroneck-based Murphy Brothers Contracting, Inc., one of Westchester’s leading contracting companies. The company is a model in both the business and philanthropy communities, having worked in collaboration with Habitat for Humanity and Furniture Sharehouse to rebuild homes and provide furnishings to people in Breezy Point and the Rockaways whose homes were devastated by Hurricane Sandy in 2012. They encourage the architects and design community to support these organizations, financially, with material donations and also by volunteering.

We were shocked to find out how widespread hunger has become in Westchester, one of the wealthiest counties in the country,” said Christopher Murphy, President and Construction Director of Murphy Brothers Contracting. “We are committed to helping the Food Bank for Westchester raise awareness of this issue and look forward to a successful event.”

The event features food stations by many of Westchester’s finest chefs, who donate their product, time and talent to make this an exciting evening.
