Healthy Kids Day

Hundreds of families had fun with the White Plains YMCA learning about eating right and getting active when school is out.

Thanks to Bev Lacy for sending us this report:

Hundreds of children came with their families to and learned about healthy eating, staying active and academically engaged throughout the summer.

The bike track, kayak races in the pool, "find on bone" on the skeleton,
archery lessons and healthy snacks encouraged families to "Take On
Summer."

Research shows that without access to activities that stimulate the
mind and body, kids are more prone to gain weight and fall behind
academically over the summer months. More than 1,900 Ys across the
country took part in the celebration, meant to kick start
physical activity and learning throughout the summer - a critical
out-of-school time for kids.

As a part of Healthy Kids Day, the White Plains Chrysler Jeep Dodge
Dealership  Drive and Ride event featured its line of Dodge brand
family vehicles to help encourage driver, passenger and family safety.

Dodge donated $20 for every test drive taken and the White Plains
YMCA raised nearly $2,500 on Saturday in support of the Strong Kids
Campaign which provides financial assistance so that families in need
can participate in summer camp, early child care, after school
programs and more.
