Friends and family will gather in White Plains this weekend to celebrate Elinor Merritt's 100th birthday.
The mother of four, grandmother of 12 and great grandmother of 11 will celebrate the big day at Sir John's Italian Restaurant.
An avid traveler and human rights activist, Merritt was released from a hospice two years ago after an improvement in her health. She traveled to Alaska that summer to celebrate.
"She is a wonderful role model of strength, courage, and independence having survived a flood in Florida as a child and raising her four children on her own while working full time for General Foods," said Merritt's granddaughter Kimberly Lawrence.
