In 2005, London pledged to host the ‘Greenest’ Olympics ever and with the opening ceremonies taking place last week, it was time to deliver on that promise. GreenBiz.com posted on one such effort: a smart meter system produced by the EDF Group called “Visi” that offers real-time energy monitoring.  Visi is currently installed on several of the Olympic venues, including the Olympic Stadium, Velodrome, basketball arena, aquatics center, as well as Tower Bridge and the EDF London Eye. The technology will track energy use at the venues in real time, but the Olympic Committee is going one step further and making the data publicly available. Those interested onsite and afar can view the collected data on displays at the venue, via a smart phone app and online at “Power the Games Live”. For fans it might all be fun and games, but for venue managers, the Visi system will help deliver energy efficiencies through the constant monitoring it provides.
