All Good Things Must Come to an End

Whoever coined the phrase “all good things must come to an end” clearly must have seen and loved our HATtitude exhibition which alas comes to an end this Saturday at 5 p.m.  That is, unless some venue pops up out of the blue that can accommodate all 150 chapeaus in a manner befitting their elegance.  Over 2500 people have seen the show which was lovingly curated by a team of three.

First among them is our board member Judith Schwartz, NYU art professor, ceramicist, author, collector and internationally-honored curator. Little did we know when we embarked on this project that Judith is also a milliner and collector of vintage hats. Her expertise and good taste were crucial, and as a delightful bonus, she brought to us the New York Milliners Guild, as a superb partner and collaborator.

Tom Van Buren, our resident folklorist and musicologist, brought to the project his extensive knowledge of ethnic traditions, specifically ceremonial headwear and head pieces worn in dance performances.

Kathleen Reckling our Gallery Director and contemporary art maven also happens to be our resident fashionista.  The term “couture” could be her middle name, for all we know.

So we tip our collective hats to this creative trio and hope, as they say in show biz, “to take it on the road.”
