Kaffe Fassett, a rock-star of the quilting world, will kick-off the Katonah Museum of Art's Unexpected Quilts Lecture Series, with a talk on The Glorious Quilt, on March 4. Cocktail reception at 7 p.m. and lecture at 7:30 p.m.
Kaffe Fassett’s color-saturated vision launched a textile design revolution. Fassett’s designs in quilting, knitting and needlepoint were the subject of a solo show at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London that later toured nine countries. Fassett shares stories of his life and the development of his singular vision. He will also sign copies of his 2012 autobiography Dreaming in Color. Book signing before and after lecture.
Upcoming lecturers include Robert Shaw on April 3 and Stacy Hollander on May 8. For more information on Unexpected Quilts Evening Lecture Series, visit www.katonahmuseum.org/programs-and-events/unexpectquiltspring13/.
Prepaid reservations required. $10 members, $15 non-members. Call 914-232-9555 to reserve a spot.
The Lecture Series complements the Museum's new exhibition, “Beyond the Bed: The American Quilt Evolution,” which celebrates the American Quilt as art. This innovative exhibition traces the dynamic evolution of the North American quilt – in form, fashion, and function – from the beginning of the 19th century to the present day. The exhibition opened on February 24 and runs through June 16, 2013.
