Funeral Scheduled Today for Former Hartsdale Seafood Market Owner

Salvatore Anthony (Sandy) Galetta of Stonington, Conn. died Sunday, Nov. 17, just three weeks shy of 100th birthday, Galetta used to own Sandy's Seafood Market in Hartsdale, NY, before moving to Stonington in 1959.

Salvatore Anthony (Sandy) Galetta of Stonington, Conn. died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013 at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital, just three weeks before his 100th birthday.

He was born Dec. 8, 1913 in Eastchester, NY, the son of Michele and Perna (Carissimo) Galetta. He marriedMary F. (Grandolfi) Galetta in 1941. She predeceased him in 1981.

He was employed in the seafood business prior to his service in the US Navy during World War II. He then opened his own business, Sandy’s Seafood Market, in Hartsdale, NY before moving to Stonington in 1959 to work at the Naval Sub Base where he was a driver. After retiring from the Sub Base in 1979 he worked as a school bus driver for the Stonington schools for several years.
