Funeral Scheduled White Plains High Graduate, Korean War Vet

A funeral service has been scheduled Saturday for James Evan Duffy, of Belvedere, SC. Duffy died on Oct. 25 at the age of 81.

Duffy graduated White Plains High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Army. He served during the Korean War, earning the rank of first lieutenant. He went on to graduate Clemson University in 1954.

In 1958, he became active in efforts to create a two-party system in South Carolina and served as chairman of the Second and Third Districts, State Finance Director, state Ballot Security Chairman, delegate to the Republican National Convention and Presidential Elector. He wrote a book on the formation of the modern Republican Party titled "In GOP We Trust" that was donated to the Collections section of the Strom Thurmond Institute.

Services for Duffy are scheduled to begin 3 p.m. at the St. Paul's Episcopal Church Augusta, located in Augusta, Ga.
