Gathering to Honor Local Officer, Help Family

Sunday's event will help support the children and widow of the 52-year-old police officer who lost his fight with cancer.

The event was originally conceived as a 10-13, "officer in need of assistance."

Peter Becerra was a criminal investigator with the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office, a 17-year-veteran with family and personal ties to law enforcement and local journalism.

"Pete has spent many years dedicated to protecting the people in the Westchester community and now it is time to help him and his family," read the flier distributed everywhere inviting people to a fundraiser June 10.

He died May 18. Donations in his name were asked to be made to www.tinyurl.com/petebecerra, the Sloane Kettering Giving Page in Memory of Peter Becerra.

This is different.

"A great family needs love and support— they lost a member of their family and ours," said his sister Maria Gallagher.

The WCDAI and The Westchester B.L.U.E Foundation are hosting this benefit for the Becerra family.

"Pete left his wife and five children to help patrol the streets of heaven. Now help us help them," the flier reads. "Help us celebrate Pete's life and show his family how tight our family is. hope to see you there."

The Westchester County Emerald Society Pipes and Drums will be playing as well as the Mclean Ave Band, and DJ 50.

The event is 4-10 p.m. Sunday, at Vintage restaurant, 171 Main St. in White Plains.
