" A SPRING AFFAIR"

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Pi Iota Omega Chapter held “A Spring Affair” Scholarship Luncheon at the Doubletree Hotel in Tarrytown, NY on May 17, 2014. This year’s honorees have made tremendous contributions with their countless efforts in Education, Health & Business, Community Service, and Arts & Entertainment to the community.David C. Banks is the President/CEO of The Eagle Academy Foundation. He was the Founding Principal of The Eagle Academy for Young Men, the first school in a network of innovative all-boys public schools in New York City. Since its inception in 2004, The Eagle Academy now has schools in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Harlem, and Newark, New Jersey.Dawna Michelle Fields is the National Program Manager of Colgate-Palmolive Company’s “Bright Smiles, Bright Futures”. Ms. Fields has spearheaded the company’s integrated dental health awareness initiative for 15 years, which targets children and families across the United States. The “Bright Smile, Bright Futures” program has reaches over 12 million children annually on behalf of Colgate.Heather Miller is the current Executive Director of the Thomas H. Slater Community Center.   As Program Director, she successfully acquired grants from various sources to organize the INVEST Youth Program which received the City of White Plains Commission on Human Rights Award.  In 2005, Ms. Miller was unanimously appointed the organization’s second Executive Director.  In addition to programs such as the Step Up Girls Program, Next Generation Boys Group, she has added the Ecumenical Food Pantry, and Martin Luther King Library to the list of service providers located at the center.NaTasha Yvette Williams made her Broadway debut starring as Sofia in the Color Purple. She starred in the highly anticipated stage version of Gone with the Wind in London’s West End Theater District. Ms. Williams returned to Broadway as Mariah in the 2012 Tony award winning Best Revival of a Musical and Grammy nominated Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess. NaTasha’s latest initiative is establishing a performance coaching school to equip young people with confidence and life skills.Pi Iota Omega Chapter has received applications from many accomplished high school students throughout Westchester County, for which the proceeds from “A Spring Affair” will provide essential scholarships to local students.   An awards ceremony will be held on June 7, 2014, at the Greenburgh Public Library for the scholarship recipients. Since 1986, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Pi Iota Omega Chapter has made a difference by rendering various services to the White Plains/Greenburgh community. The national theme is “Global Leadership through Timeless Service.”
