FASNY: UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES

Dear Mayor and Common Council,

We could not have written anything more articulately and succinctly than the letter that was drafted by Marie and Ron Rhodes.  We are in complete agreement.

In addition, when I used to drive our children to school at 7:30 am during the week (turning right onto Bryant Avenue from Hathaway Lane), there were days that I had to "floor it" to turn right onto Bryant because of the non-stop line of cars going from Mamaroneck Avenue to North Street.  I cannot imagine what it would it be like were FASNY, White Plains to become a reality.

We now have a substantial number of students from White Plains High School that drive quickly through the neighborhood in the morning, presumably rushing to get to class on time, taking the side streets.  Although we were told that the French-American students do not like driving like "our" children do, I find it hard to believe that there will not be a dramatic increase in cars, not only on the larger streets like North, Bryant, Mamaroneck and Ridgeway, but throughout the neighborhoods themselves.  Once it is done, there is no turning back and we will all be living with the consequences.

What positive impact can a large, private tax-exempt campus school possibly have thrust in the middle of a quiet, residential neighborhood?  The whole character of the neighborhood will change.  It is very sad. Hopefully, it is not too late.

We hope that you will seriously consider the impact of your decision on so many White Plains residents and on the community itself.   Vote NO to a special permit for FASNY.

Respectfully,
Dr. Karen Silver and Dr. Eric Mandel
