Local Resident Will Run Boston Marathon in Support of Food Bank for Westchester

WHITE PLAINS, NY (March 2014) The idea of running for fun may seem crazy to some, but for Michael Schmutzer, executive chef at Doral Arrowwood Conference Center & Resort in Rye Brook, running is a way to give back to the local community. On April 21, Michael will be one of thousands to participate in the 118th Boston Marathon and has announced that he will donate all raised funds to the Food Bank for Westchester.

“The Food Bank for Westchester is a vital part of our local community and, believe it or not, many homes and families struggle to put nutritious food on the table,” said Schmutzer, who calls his team C.H.E.F 26.2. “I hope that my supporters will care and give so that others have the chance to eat nutritious food.”

The Food Bank for Westchester is the backbone of the food distribution system in Westchester, supporting over 265 front-line hunger relief programs throughout the county.  The Food Bank provides 95 percent of all the food given to hungry families, children and seniors as cooked meals or groceries to take home. Last year, the Food Bank distributed more than 7.4 million pounds of food and 6.2 million meals to those hungry or at risk of hunger.
