Viewfinder: 7 City Firefighters Are Sworn In

White Plains rehired seven firefighters Friday, who were let go during last year's budget cuts.

Seven of the City’s bravest were hired back to the White Plains Fire Bureau and sworn in during a ceremony Friday, at the White Plains Department of Public Safety’s headquarters.

White Plains residents Erik Refvik, 31; Danny Hall, 25; Chris Hosei, 24; John Egan, 30; Sundar Seward, 25; Kris Eifler, 28; and John Rostkowski, 30, of Bethel, Conn., were rehired after being let go during last year’s budget cuts thanks to a $1.9 million federal grant—administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the US Department of Homeland Security.

US Congresswoman Nita Lowey, Acting Mayor Thomas Roach and several city departments—including public safety, budgeting and finance—worked together to secure the grant.  Click for more on that story.

The City laid off a total of 21 police officers and firefighters last year—eight firefighters and four police officers were hired back, and the remaining nine civil servants found work else where.
