Bleached $5 Bill Nets Thief $95, Police Say

Police say the man bought less than $5 worth of food and walked away with the change.

A counterfeit $5 bill helped a man walk away with more than $95 and a free lunch at Carvel in the White Plains Galleria Sunday, police say.

Police say a man used a $100 bill to buy less than $5 of food at about 2 p.m. Sunday. When the owner checked the bill Monday afternoon, he noticed the watermark was actually that of a $5 bill and reported the incident to police.

Police believe whoever used the bill bleached a $5 bill and printed over it.
